First-Time Setup

User Guide

Search engine optimization can feel overwhelming, but getting started with SEO Forge is straightforward. This section walks you through installation, initial configuration, and the first things the plugin does for your site the moment you activate it. Whether you are launching a brand-new WordPress site or adding SEO Forge to an established one with hundreds of posts, this guide will have you up and running in under ten minutes. SEO Forge was built specifically so that content managers — not developers — can handle every aspect of on-page SEO without touching a single line of code.

What SEO Forge Does for You

SEO Forge is a WordPress plugin that handles on-page SEO automatically and gives you a simple editing interface to fine-tune every page. It scores your content, generates meta tags, creates sitemaps, adds schema markup for rich results in Google, and provides AI-powered tools (in the PRO version) that write titles, fix issues, and audit your entire site. Everything happens inside your WordPress dashboard — no external tools, no code, no spreadsheets.

Step-by-Step Installation

  1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard at yoursite.com/wp-admin.
  2. In the left sidebar, go to Plugins > Add New.
  3. Type “SEO Forge” into the search box in the upper right corner.
  4. Find the SEO Forge card in the results and click the Install Now button.
  5. Wait a few seconds for the installation to complete, then click Activate.
  6. You will see a new SEO Forge menu item appear in your left sidebar — this is your main entry point to all SEO tools.
  7. If you are upgrading from another SEO plugin (Yoast, Rank Math, All in One SEO, or SEOPress), go to SEO Forge > Migration and run the import wizard. It brings over existing meta titles, descriptions, focus keywords, custom canonical URL overrides, supported noindex/nofollow flags, supported Open Graph/Twitter title/description/image overrides, Yoast/Rank Math global templates, and tested/core redirect data. Premium-only modules such as advanced schema packs, video/news/local add-ons, WooCommerce SEO add-on settings, rank tracking, and ecosystem-specific workflows should be reviewed manually after import.
  8. Visit any post or page in the editor — you should now see the SEO Forge box on the right side of the screen.

Recommended Settings After Activation

After activation, go to SEO Forge > Settings and review the following options. These settings apply to your entire site and only need to be configured once.

SettingWhere to Find ItRecommended ValueWhy It Matters
Auto-analyze on saveGeneral tabOnEvery post is scored automatically when you click Save or Publish — no manual re-analysis needed
Schema enabledGeneral tabOnAdds invisible structured data so Google can display rich results (star ratings, FAQ dropdowns, prices)
Internal links enabledGeneral tabOnShows you relevant pages to link to while editing, which helps Google understand your site structure
Noindex tag archivesSearch AppearanceOnTag archive pages are usually thin content that dilute your SEO — keep them out of Google
Noindex date archivesSearch AppearanceOnDate-based archive pages almost never provide value in search results
Default OG imageGeneral tabUpload your logoWhen a post has no featured image, this image appears in social media shares instead of nothing

Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page after adjusting these settings.

What Happens Automatically After Activation

Even before you touch a single setting, SEO Forge is already working behind the scenes:

  • XML sitemap generated at yoursite.com/sitemap_index.xml so Google can discover all your pages.
  • Open Graph tags added to every page so links shared on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn display a proper title, description, and image.
  • Schema markup (Article, Breadcrumbs, Organization) output on all pages so search engines understand your content structure.
  • Virtual robots.txt created to guide search engine crawlers, with your sitemap URL included automatically.

Imagine you just launched a food blog with 30 recipes. The moment you activate SEO Forge, all 30 recipes get Article schema, appear in the sitemap, and have proper social sharing tags — before you configure anything.

Next Steps

Open any post or page in the editor. On the right side of the screen, you will see the SEO Forge box with a score circle, a keyword field, and a list of issues. That box is where you will do most of your daily SEO work — and every section of this guide explains a different part of it.

> Good to know: If you are migrating from Yoast SEO, your green/orange/red traffic-light scores will not carry over, but SEO Forge imports the core SEO fields plus supported robots and social overrides. SEO Forge recalculates scores using its own 13-point system, so expect different numbers — but usually more accurate ones.

> Tip: Bookmark the SEO Forge > Dashboard page in your browser. It gives you a single-screen overview of your site’s SEO health and is the best place to start each work session.

Check Setup & Health

Before running audits, AI fixes, Google integrations, or migration from another SEO plugin, open Forge Suite > Setup & Health and click Run diagnostics. The panel checks active Forge plugins, Avakode Connect, AI credits readiness, the Avakode API, permalinks, and migration/integration source plugins such as Yoast, Rank Math, AIOSEO, WooCommerce, and Elementor.

The diagnostics can recommend a next action, refresh permalink rules or credit balances, keep a short diagnostic history, and generate a redacted support package for Avakode support. They do not spend credits, activate/deactivate licenses, change Google settings, or import SEO data. If the panel reports an API, license, or credits warning, fix that first and rerun the check.
