Yoast SEO is the most-installed WordPress SEO plugin in the world. It’s run on millions of sites. It’s been around since 2008. The green/orange/red traffic light is in every WordPress user’s muscle memory. And the codebase is showing its age.
Yoast was designed for an era of SEO where AI was a research paper. The whole plugin is built around rule-based checks — keyword in title, meta description length, image alt text, readability score. All of that is still useful, but it’s not enough in 2026. Google is showing AI Overviews. ChatGPT is answering queries directly. The winning content for modern SEO is structured differently, and Yoast has no features to help you produce it.
SEO Forge is the alternative built for the AI search era. Cheaper than Yoast Premium, with AI Fix Issues (one-click rewrites for every SEO problem), AI Site Audit, an AEO score for AI search engines, and every feature in every tier — no add-on maze.
Realistic total cost for a full-featured Yoast Premium setup: $99 (Premium) + $89 (Local SEO) + $89 (Video SEO) + $89 (WooCommerce SEO) = $366/year — and still no AEO, no AI Fix, no AI Site Audit, no Content Decay.
SEO Forge Personal at $39/year has all of the above and more, in a single plugin.
Let’s be fair. Yoast has been the category leader for 15+ years and has real strengths:
Yoast is the default answer to “which WordPress SEO plugin should I install.” Millions of site owners know the traffic light system. Every WordPress tutorial on SEO references Yoast. For a non-technical site owner who just wants to do SEO “the normal way,” Yoast is a safe choice.
15 years of blog posts, tutorials, video courses, and community forums. If you hit a weird edge case with Yoast, someone has already solved it and posted the answer somewhere.
Yoast has shipped hundreds of updates over its lifespan. It’s tested against every version of WordPress. It works with basically every theme and page builder. For large-scale production sites, that reliability matters.
Yoast’s team has contributed heavily to WordPress core’s SEO-related features. The native WordPress sitemap (introduced in 5.5) was partially inspired by Yoast’s work. This institutional position is real.
Yoast flags issues. You fix them manually. For 10 posts, fine. For 500 posts, it’s a part-time job.
SEO Forge puts a Fix button next to every issue in the meta box. Click it and the AI rewrites the specific element — title, description, thin paragraph, missing H2, passive voice, missing keyword. Preview, accept, save. Every issue has its own purpose-built fix flow.
Yoast has no equivalent. Their AI add-on generates meta titles and descriptions (useful) but doesn’t offer per-issue fix buttons.
Yoast’s dashboard shows a per-post SEO score. That’s useful, but on a site with 500 posts, you’re left to figure out which posts to prioritize yourself.
SEO Forge’s AI Site Audit runs every post through 8 SEO check types in one pass, then runs an AI prioritization layer that ranks the fixes by expected impact and traffic potential. Instead of “here are 2,000 issues,” you get “start with these 10 pages for maximum ranking lift.” Export as PDF for client deliverables.
Yoast has no equivalent. Yoast Premium’s bulk editor helps you manage meta across multiple posts, but it doesn’t prioritize or run AI analysis.
This is the feature no Yoast tier has at any price. SEO Forge scores every post from 0–100 on how well it’ll rank in AI search engines — Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Bing Copilot. Based on FAQ structure, direct answer blocks, entity markup, schema completeness, and semantic clarity.
If your organic traffic is starting to drift from blue-link results to AI answer boxes, this feature matters a lot. Yoast has no roadmap commitment to AEO as of 2026.
SEO Forge connects to Google Search Console and compares every post’s performance over 28-day windows. Posts losing clicks or positions get flagged automatically. You catch traffic declines early instead of discovering them quarters later.
Yoast Premium has a GSC integration but it’s primarily for surfacing current ranking data, not for detecting decay. The Content Decay feature in SEO Forge is a full workflow — detect, diagnose, suggest, fix, track recovery — that Yoast doesn’t replicate.
Yoast’s pricing structure:
For a typical Yoast power-user site, the realistic cost is $229–$366/year per site with all add-ons.
SEO Forge’s pricing structure:
No add-ons. No upsells. Local SEO, Video SEO, WooCommerce SEO, News Article schema — all included in the $39/year plan.
SEO Forge ships a one-click Yoast migrator. During migration, SEO Forge reads every Yoast meta field from wp_postmeta:
_yoast_wpseo_title_yoast_wpseo_metadesc_yoast_wpseo_focuskw_yoast_wpseo_canonical_yoast_wpseo_meta-robots-noindex_yoast_wpseo_opengraph-title_yoast_wpseo_opengraph-description_yoast_wpseo_opengraph-image_yoast_wpseo_twitter-title_yoast_wpseo_twitter-description_yoast_wpseo_twitter-image_yoast_wpseo_primary_category_yoast_wpseo_schema_page_type_yoast_wpseo_bctitle (breadcrumb title)_yoast_wpseo_meta-robots-advAll 15 core meta keys are copied to SEO Forge’s own storage. Your focus keywords, titles, descriptions, canonicals, Open Graph data, Twitter Card data, breadcrumb title, robots flags, and supported schema type hints are preserved.
After migration, review frontend source output, then deactivate Yoast. Your site keeps running with SEO Forge taking over and the migrated metadata intact; rankings are controlled by search engines, so the practical goal is matching the same title/description/canonical/robots/social output before launch.

14-day refund. Yoast migrator included. AI, AEO, and every feature in every plan.
The migrator is designed to preserve what Google sees: titles, descriptions, canonicals, robots, social metadata, and supported schema hints. After migration, compare frontend source on key pages before deactivating Yoast. No plugin can guarantee ranking movement, but keeping the rendered SEO output equivalent is the safe migration path.
Yes. SEO Forge outputs its own BreadcrumbList schema and has a shortcode and widget for displaying breadcrumbs if your theme doesn’t include them. The migrator also copies Yoast’s _yoast_wpseo_bctitle values so custom breadcrumb titles are preserved.
SEO Forge includes native Local SEO, Video SEO, WooCommerce SEO, and News/Article schema features in every plan — Local SEO and Video SEO are in the free version too — so you do not need separate SEO Forge add-ons. Yoast Premium/add-on settings are still paid-plugin verification scope: review local business profiles, video/news metadata, WooCommerce product SEO, redirects, and any add-on-specific schema before removing Yoast.
Yoast is 15+ years old with a large team. SEO Forge is newer but ships more frequently (typically every 2–3 weeks) and the team responds to support tickets within one business day. For large enterprise deployments with years of risk tolerance requirements, Yoast’s track record is longer. For everyone else, SEO Forge’s quality and cadence are production-grade.
Yoast Academy is genuinely good SEO education. It’s not tied to the plugin — you can still use Yoast’s free courses while running SEO Forge as your actual SEO plugin. We also publish our own SEO guide and AEO guide that cover modern SEO strategy.
Technically yes, for migration purposes, but not as a long-term setup. Two SEO plugins will output duplicate meta tags and schema, which Google doesn’t love. Use both during migration, then deactivate Yoast.
